After an exciting recruitment process, ALEF has now hired a new Secretary General, who will take up his position on September 1, 2024.
MARKUS ASK
Markus Ask has worked full-time in civil society organizations since 2009 where, stationed both in Sweden and abroad, he has worked to improve people's living conditions at a global level. His most recent position was at LM International, where he held several different positions. First as Regional Director for Asia, based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. After moving back to Sweden, he has been Key Account Manager with a focus on financing, networking and creating policy documents and Global Partnership Manager with responsibility for LM’s global partnerships in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. Subsequently, he was also Regional Manager for Europe and Head of Unit for Global Program Management & Partnerships.
Markus has taken on many different roles in the course of his career, but they have all ultimately been about helping and supporting people find themselves in a difficult or even hopeless situation.
In his new position at ALEF, Markus is looking forward to being part of an organization with a clear vision, proven track record, a determination to continue developing the organization and a drive to meaningfully improve the lives of those affected by our work. He sees ALEF as an organization that, through its approach to empowerment and adult education, helps some of the most vulnerable people in the world to improve their standard of living.
Markus is a positive, caring, goal-oriented, creative and passionate person. Family is an important part of his life. He lives with his wife and daughter in Uppsala. He likes to fill his spare time with exercise, sports, music, travel, time in nature and socializing with friends.
